Paperworth Books is an independent publisher based in Lagos. Founded in 2002, we grew from a Port Harcourt bookshop to publish authentic and unique voices in Nigerian fiction.
We also publish narrative non-fiction, including biographies, memoirs and history books.
We are responsible for publishing the first novels of acclaimed writers Chimeka Garricks, Paul Ugbede and Eriye Onagoruwa and currently publish Nigerian Canadian writer Michael Afenfia’s latest books.
biso Graham-Douglas founded Paperworth Books Limited in 2002. She is an international publishing and book development consultant and a seasoned conference speaker passionate about knowledge and books and fostering their access across Nigeria and the larger African continent.
Ibiso has a master’s in Publishing from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts, a certificate in New Creative Ventures from the London Business School and an MBA in International Business Management from Griffith College, Dublin.
Paperworth Books are open to partnerships and collaborations on book development seeking to foster innovative solutions for the democratisation of learning in Africa.

Paperworth Books is a proudly independent Nigerian publishing house dedicated to amplifying authentic, compelling, and diverse voices. Founded in 2002, we have grown from a modest Port Harcourt bookshop into a dynamic publishing company championing Nigerian fiction and narrative nonfiction, including biographies, memoirs, and historical works.
Over the years, we have nurtured and launched remarkable literary talent. We published the debut novels of acclaimed writers Chimeka Garricks and Eriye Onagoruwa, and we are the current publishers of NigerianCanadian author Michael Afenfia’s latest titles. We are also honoured to publish the works of Prof Nimi Wariboko, who leads the African Institute at Boston University and is widely recognised for his influential scholarship and thought leadership.
Paperworth Books was founded by Ibiso GrahamDouglas, an international publishing and book development consultant passionate about expanding access to knowledge and literature across the African continent. Ibiso holds a Master’s in Publishing from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts; a certificate in New Creative Ventures from the London Business School; and an MBA in International Business Management from Griffith College, Dublin. She is also currently an Adjunct Lecturer of Book Publishing at the Pan Atlantic University.

We are proud to be the only Nigerian member of the Alliance of Independent Publishers, a global network committed to cultural diversity, bibliodiversity, and the strengthening of independent publishing worldwide. We are also the partner publisher for the Beeta Playwright Competition, where Ibiso serves as a judge, supporting the theatrical performance ecosystem.
